It hasn’t been any big secret that one of our most senior technicians and key employees, Blaze Johnson, has left Schrock to take an awesome position managing networks for Duncan Aviation.
The only thing I hate more than firing an employee is hiring a new one. The classifieds in the Lincoln Journal Star are such a rip off at more than $800 for a one week job advertisement.
A few other business owners I have talked to have received better value from www.cornhuskerhelpwanted.com, but we always start off by posting the position on our website first. You never know who may see it and respond.
One Thursday evening as I was waiting for an interview with Zach from the Lincoln Journal Star (the reported who wrote the AWESOME story about me in the Next Internet Millionaire competition), an email flashed across my screen.
The email was an application for employment from Doug. As I read his resume, I wondered out loud if someone from above was smiling down on me. I had NEVER received a resume from such a qualified individual out of the blue.
In fact, Doug actually applied for the Duncan job that Blaze won. In almost every way Doug had the experience on paper to equal everything that Blaze had.
I brought him in for an interview that night, and hired him two days later. So now the only question is will Doug’s on-paper skills measure up in the high-demand customer service world of Schrock Innovations…
Tomorrow I will let you know EXACTLY how Doug handles one of the most difficult Schrock tests we could throw at him – a Maintenance Checkup sale.
