What is whaling and why does Steve Jobs care?
On Compute This, we talked about the term “whaling.” Whaling is a term similar to phishing except that big names are targeted for maximum impact.
Over the past month, several whaling attacks have taken place against wealthy executives and individuals. The reason for whaling these people is quite obvious, they have the most money. However, how do wealthy, smart business executives fall for such a trick? These hackers have included legitimate logos, credentials, and terminology making it appear legit.
This has certainly caused a large stir among the wealthy, perhaps this is a lesson to all of us to watch out for these types of attacks, whether a big fish or not.
Can Google’s services really be trusted?
Google had a massive fail this week. Google maps, Analytics, Reader, Adsense, Gmail and everything else Google was down for an hour and a half. The cause of the fail was due to a traffic routing error directing people to the same place. What can we all learn from this error? We will let you figure that one out on your own.
How can I change my external IP address?
To change your external IP address it is quite simple. Just call your internet provider and they will do the rest for you.
Eric Whiteman Gets an on-air ‘atta boy!
Our onsite guy, Eric Whiteman was given a pat on the back by a caller. Our caller, Charles, wasn’t sure on how to hook up his computer, so Eric went to his house, got it hooked up and connected to the internet. Way to go Eric, you truly are “one smart cookie.”
